DESCRIPTION: APW - E. Howard & Co, Boston, Series III, 15J, N-S (just over 19S), massive 14K gold or better (tested, case band and cuvette with no fade of 14K solution on stone but rapid fade of 18K solution, front with slow fade of 18K solution on stone and no fade of 14K solution, rear with no fade of 18K solution on stone) original HC marked for retailer R. Wachhorst of Sacramento, Cal and with inaccurate crowned "18" hallmark, scalloped band, pumpkin style pendant, gold cuvette, bow with chain guards, white enamel SS dial, hour and minute hands with polished spades, KWKS, gilt mvt, s#18470. Gross weight of assembled watch 117.5 dwt (182.7 g); gross weight of case only with mvt removed 81.0 dwt (125.9 g). A notable massive piece, with its case alone weighing in excess of 4 troy ounces.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, plates with dulled yellowed tone, scattered dark spots; nearly flawless dial with very small fine scratch toward right perimeter of seconds-register; excellent hour hand and seconds-hand, fine minute hand with oxide to its polished spade; case shows ample wear, ding toward lower-right perimeter of rear, reduced engraving detail with full loss through shoulders, front lift spring is a lightweight replacement and is weak allowing the heavy lid to fall back closed with gravity, inner lip of case rear with some metal loss at mvt case screw position and mvt currently has a spacer inserted beneath its case screw, front hinge is missing an end-cap and rear hinge is missing both end-caps; bow pivots freely, is substantially thinned at top, and has ample play within pendant sockets, push shows ample wear; good glass crystal.
